Karen Sartain was appointed as Southampton Town Justice in January 2020. She brings almost 30 years of legal experience to the bench. Her commitment to justice began as an attorney practicing in Florida and includes time with the Southampton Town Justice Court as a Staff Attorney for the Legal Aid Society. Judge Sartain lives in Westhampton with her husband, Paul and their college-aged kids, Shannon and Will.
WHY I’M RUNNING
In January of this year, I was appointed as Southampton Town Justice by vote of the Town Board. Little did I know that soon after my appointment, the COVID-19 pandemic would have significant impact on the Justice Court.
My role as Town Justice took on a different meaning, as I suddenly had new responsibilities in this unchartered reality. I streamlined the transition to virtual hearings and designed a walk-up window that allows the public to handle most matters without having to go indoors, all while ensuring our staff was being properly cared for.
Being elected Town Justice will allow me to continue the hard work I’ve done this year. My experience as both a Judge and as an attorney means I am fair to everyone who comes into my courtroom— litigants, attorneys, and Court staff.
I want to continue serving our community but I can’t do that without your support. I’d be honored to have your vote on November 3rd. Thank you!
